About

I’ve spent more than twenty years architecting systems that aren’t allowed to fail — banking platforms, real-time resource tracking for Canada’s Department of National Defence, travel booking engines processing real money in real time, and now multi-agent AI systems. The technology underneath has changed more than once. What I actually do hasn’t: take on the system nobody can afford to get wrong, and build it so it doesn’t.
I started as an electrical engineer, but the systems that pulled me in were always digital. In 2002 I founded Tajan, starting with two developers I hired. Over the next fifteen years as CEO, I grew it into a 50-person company that provided software products and services to twelve major Iranian banks. We designed centralized identity and SSO, high-throughput SMS and workflow automation, transaction reconciliation engines that handled fifty-plus financial formats, and nationwide ATM monitoring, all under the kind of compliance and uptime pressure that banking doesn’t negotiate on. In 2012, while still leading Tajan, I also co-founded Sazman Host, a web hosting and domain registration company I exited in 2019. In 2017 I stepped back from day-to-day leadership at Tajan to the board, where I stayed until 2019; Tajan was acquired in 2021.
In 2019, my company Momentaj won a competitive Innovative Solutions Canada contract from the Department of National Defence. DND wanted a way for police, fire and paramedic commanders working the same incident to see, in real time, where every vehicle, kit and responder was and whether it was available. I led the project and designed the solution. It used low-power tags matched to each resource: Bluetooth, LoRa or LTE-M, depending on what the resource could carry. A vehicle gateway bridged the tags, and a private cloud put every resource on a live incident map. A team of nine delivered the proof of concept, Momentrack, in six months, on schedule.
Around the same time I was building two IoT ventures of my own. In 2017 I founded uBeac, an IoT platform that grew to more than 3,000 registered users and was acquired in 2020. In 2018 I co-founded Tingslab, a Toronto hardware startup building a cellular GPS tracker; COVID-19 ended it in 2020, and its case study covers why and what I learned.
Through Momentaj I also took on a run of fractional CTO and architecture roles across fintech and travel. As fractional CTO and chief architect for Trip Support, a Canadian online travel agency, I designed and built its booking platform, integrating flights, hotels, vacation packages, insurance and payment providers, and I hired the team that took it over. I also architected and led the build of a buy-now-pay-later platform for travel. Underneath the different industries, the job was the same: take a business that couldn’t tolerate downtime or data loss, and give it an architecture that wouldn’t.
The last few years have been about pointing that same discipline at AI. I designed and built a multi-agent code review platform that acts as a virtual senior engineering team, an AI-native real estate intelligence platform, and a consumer AI agent that coordinates multi-step tasks across several third-party services. Today, as Principal AI Engineer/Architect at Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, I lead AI platform architecture for a global hospitality brand’s guest-facing AI systems.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran and a master’s degree in IT Project Management from the Industrial Management Institute, also in Tehran. Since 2014 I’ve kept up coursework in data science, machine learning and NLP, because the field doesn’t hold still and neither should the learning. Outside of client and employer work, I created and maintain FluentCMS and YeSvelte, two open-source projects, because I still like shipping software, not just architecting it.
My research and experiments, and the university partnerships behind some of them, are collected on the R&D & Collaborations page. The full timeline is on Experience.
